Mathematical Models of Visual Perception

Notice

Due to high number of participants, the conference will take place in Aula Prodi - piazza San Giovanni in Monte, instead of Accademia delle Scienze

The conference is devoted to mathematical models of visual perception and theoretical tools for affording the problem. The aim of the conference is to bring together researchers from vision cognitive neuroscience, psychology of perception and mathematics, in order to favor the synergy between these disciplines. It is motivated by the fact that recent important advances in neurophysiology have been concerned with geometrical issues. The discovery of the highly complicated structure of visual cortical areas, call for new conceptual tools that appear necessary to handle their architectural and functional aspects. Also the structure of natural and artificial images used in visual psychophysics requires a thorough knowledge of theorical instruments. On the other hand, mathematics have developed concepts and theories that may prove useful in these respects. More specifically the conference is devoted to the themes

  • Functional Geometry of Visual Processing
  • Phenomenological Models of Perception.
  • Calculus of Variations, and subriemannian geometry.
